Installation Process

You've purchased your charger, now its time to think about getting it installed. Below you will find a simple explanation as to how the installation process works in general and how the communication will work with the installation team.

Step 1
Confirm your vehicle details and what charger you have.

Step 2
The site survey. As part of the installation process the installation team ahead of time will need some details of the location where the charger will be installed. Technology can play a part here and usually this can be a remote survey without the need for an in-person visit.

However, at certain properties and with certain charging models there may need to be a physical survey at the location, to make sure everything is optimised for the best charging performance. Things the survey may look at include power supply, charging point location and WiFi connection.

    Step 3
You will receive a quotation for the installation

    Step 4
Agree a date for the installation

    Step 5
Preparing for your EV charger installation day!

    Make space

Clear as much of the area around the installation site as possible. This will involve making sure the off-street parking space is as clear as possible, as well as moving any clutter away from the area where you want your charger to be installed.

    Be adaptable

Sometimes adjustments have to be made to get the best out of your installation. Your installer will help you choose the best spot for your charging point, based on power supply, ease of access and where you park. Trust their expertise.

    Power off

Your installer will need to switch the power supply off for installation of the charging point, so it’s best to be aware of this ahead of time. Make sure you’re able to turn everything off for a little while – check there’s nothing recording on the TV, and keep the fridge closed!

    Hand Over

Once it’s all set up, your installer will walk you through using your new EV charger. This will involve connecting the charging cable (at both ends, if it’s untethered), turning on the power supply, understanding the controls, and answering any questions you have about best practice. The installer will also connect the charging point to your WiFi network. If you’ve chosen a smart charger, your specialist will introduce you to the advanced functionality and make sure it’s all connected to your vehicle.

This covers the main elements of the installation process, however if you have any questions please just contact us at installation@purecharge.com or use the contact form on our contact page.

Why do I need a WiFi connection - to get an electric car charger installed at my property? - everything about electric vehicles is smart – so it makes sense that your charger is too. Today’s generation of charging points do more than just transfer electricity from the power supply to your car. By connecting your EV charger to WiFi, you can have access to:

    • Intelligent software updates, to keep your charger working its best
    • Diagnostics and troubleshooting
    • Smart features – including voltage detection and power flow with certain models
